This is a build that i found on this very site in forums under nolani academy of arts. So far it has worked for me(lvl 11 farming hydras) but i want to know what you think.

1.Illusionary Weaponry
2.Conjure Phantasm
3.Phantom Pain
4.Protective Spirit
5.Healing Breeze
6.Essence Bond
7.Mending
8.Balthazar's Spirit

o an one more thing, sup runes for fast casting and illusion magic+ a -50 hp cesta if you have one.
5 sup mesmer runes= about 1 major monk rune

mesmer 55 wouldnt work as well IW is focused on a single target drop it will take quite a long time to get rid of those aataxes in the beginning of UW
i belive they have 1500 health?

IW does around 40 damage per hit
so
1500/40= about 37.5 hits per aataxe

that means this is not even close to being as efficent as a necro or monk 55

But it's a way for a mesmer to solo. It may not be as efficient, but heck, I'm a mesmer. Suppose I want to solo something? Now I can, without being a necro.

Drop conjure and phantom for SV and powerdrain and you have my extensive UW run build. I don't see the reason to start a new thread, as all mes 55 info recently (for a month and more) has just gone into my thread to be sorted.

true, power drain and sv are good for uw runs

also, the advantage this build has over necros and monks is the fact that all the superior runes cost about 600g total

and you can use shield of judgement if you want to, IW is just easier to get

also, there is a flaw in 55 mo and 55 necros. this is that, when soloing the uw, dying nightmares will cast rend enchantments on you. which WILL kill you, but mesmers can use power drain, therefore surviving where all others do not. (nightmares placed to nerf 55s, didnt count on mesmers

I consider being able to apply (25s at 16 with +20%) SV an even greater advantage... it allows to you effectively kill the smites and graspings, as well as certain parts of the Unwanted guests quest solo.

Although power drain is of course handy... also good for energy management vs terrowebs.

I ran a similar build, removed baltz and brought leech signet (friend would baltz me). We were able to take out 2 nightmares at a time easily, bring a SS necro and you can blaze through UW. You have 2 interrupts, so you can stop 2 nightmares or maelstorms, meteor storms.

My necro guildie said he enjoyed a 55 mes tanking more than a Monk because of the interrupts and constant SV, IW just gives you some extra dmg to kill leftover mobs.

If you want to kill trolls, avicara, tundra giants, etc. Just use arcane echo SoJ and move around alot. Im not a big fan of mantra of resolve (since the nerf) so i've gotten around needing to use it.

Soloing it is slow but definatley possible and not too difficult!

You know you get an SV double in Factions. You can combo the 2 skills and echo whatever else you wanna be using.

Was much fun to make.

I love playing with different skills in this build, I was doing domination magic with Energy Surge and Empathy for a while, but I really have settled on the illusion based build for most of my farming.

I really enjoy farming hydras in Skyward Reach with Mantra of Flame. Conjure + IW really does take down single targets in a hurry.

If you mean out of Drok's into Talus Chute, yes, it works pretty well, you can kill off the Averica and Trolls in the forest and go into the Troll Cave and have a grand ol' time.

If you mean out of Drok's toward Port Sledge vs the Grawl, not so much. But any 55 build is going to have trouble with that area, frickin' necros with Chilblains.

to be accurate you should have said "mesmer wouldn't work as well -for large groups-..."

It does kill aatxes very well, but it also kills just about any boss that you want dead. Try killing the monk griffon boss with SoJ, the same boss goes down in about 45 seconds of IW. Try killing Willa the Unpleasant with SoJ or any Ele boss with SS.

So...IW is better 1v1 and better at killing bosses.

Mesmer can clear more of UW than any other class. That is all.

No other class can successfully solo-complete Unwanted guests (as far as I've heard...), as there are parts where keepers and Vengefuls spawn together. Unless a Mo/Me tried... thats slower.

There are some times that I don't care about efficiency, and the ability to walk invulnerable across Tyria (and UW!) is just cooler

I agree, Mesmers have that ability, and something else i like about mesmers is that they are not overrated . It takes skill to play with a mesmer
